Sue Williamson

Based in Cape Town, Sue Williamson is an internationally recognised artist. Her work is included in such collections as MoMA, New York and the Victoria & Albert Museum, London.

She is currently exhibiting at the International Center of Photography in New York on ‘The Rise and Fall of Apartheid: Photography and the Bureaucracy of Everyday Life’, an exhibition which will move to the Haus der Kunst in Munich in 2013.

Trained as a printmaker, Williamson also works in video, photography and installation. Her work addresses the media, social issues and aspects of contemporary history.

Williamson also writes and lectures about art, and is the author of the classic ‘Resistance Art in South Africa’ (1989).  In 2009, she published ‘South African Art Now’ (HarperCollins, New York). She is the founding editor of www.artthrob.co.za, the leading website on contemporary art in South Africa.

She was named as a Rockefeller Foundation Creative Arts Fellow for 2011, and spent three months at the Bellagio Center in Italy.
