Mohau Modisakeng was born in 1986 and grew up in Soweto, Johannesburg, South Africa. In 2004 Modisakeng was invited onto a program that allowed him to travel to the United Kingdom where his interests and concerns around art making where developed. In that same year Modisakeng matriculated and preceded to join a design college in Johannesburg in 2005, which he left after a year of studying.

In 2006 Modisakeng started with his studies at the Michaelis School of Fine Art in Cape Town. In 2009 he graduated and went in to pursue his ambitions as a sculptor. The following year Modisakeng had his first gallery show with the Steveson Gallery in Cape Town, South Africa.

During this year Modisakeng started work towards his Masters degree, which he is currently working towards concluding. In the last two years Modisakeng has participated in a number of exhibitions and art projects locally and abroad, most notably the MTN New contemporaries (Finalist) as well as the Sasol New Signatures (Winner). 

Modisakeng works between Johannesburg, and Cape Town.
