Susanne Weiss
Susanne Weiss is a museologist, curator and art educator based in Berlin. As of January 1, 2012 she has been appointed Director of the Heidelberger Kunstverein. She is currently developing the project The Ties of the Transitory for the Cypriot organisation neme, together with Lena Ziese. From 2009 to 2010 she was Robert Bosch Cultural Manager for the Goethe Institute at the Sharjah Museums Department in the Emirate of Sharjah. During that time she established an extensive further education programme which led to the exhibition Ambassadors. Before her time in the UAE she was curator 2009 for the diploma and masters exhibition at the department for the visual arts at the Berlin Weissensee school of art (1, 2, 3 …). The summer of 2009 also saw her presentation of the show Zwei Erzählungen von Etwas with works by Heide Hinrichs and Max Sudhues at Samsa, Berlin. In December 2008 she developed the exhibition series Ruhe und Ordnung at JET in collaboration with Ulf Aminde. For this, the classical static exhibition format was broken down into five acts. From 2007 to 2008 she was interim artistic director of the Kunsthaus Dresden – Municipal Gallery for Contemporary Art. In 2007 she organised the Felix Gonzalez-Torres exhibition at the Hamburger Bahnhof, Museum for Contemporary Art, Berlin, together with the NGBK RealismusStudio. In the course of this show she devised the accompanying programme consisting of individual guided tours in order to explore the work in its widest range of perspectives and experiences. A further spatial dimension of the transfer of knowledge was developed with five students at the department of communication design at the Berlin Weissensee school of art.
Susanne Weiss has been working in the field of international exhibitions since 1996 in London, Oxford, Jerusalem, Vienna, Dresden, Sharjah and Berlin.
