Ericka Florez has worked as a curator and artist; in both fields the core of her work is the relationship between writing and images and writing and performativity. Her latest works are based on the performatic nature of documents and on criticism as a form of fiction. In recent years, she has also co-organized conferences in Cali centered on writing and art criticism.
A graduate in psychology, Florez went on to specialize in the history and theory of contemporary art. From 2011 to 2014 she was part of the team of the independent space lugar a dudas in Cali-Colombia; and she is currently preparing a book about the ten years of existence of that space.
She co-founded La Nocturna, an independent platform that designs educational experimental programs on art and culture and seeks the infiltration of this program in the agenda and budget of local cultural institutions.
She has curated the exhibitions I put a spell on space (Museo La Tertulia, Cali 2015) and Hearsay Evidence (Museo La Tertulia, Cali, 2014), and co-curated From Malaise (14 Salón Regional de Artistas, sede Pacífico, Cali, Colombia, 2012). As an artist she has exhibited her work internationally in the Museo Experimental El Eco (México City), Tabacalera Espacio para el Arte (Madrid, Spain), and HMK (Hoorn, The Netherlands); nationally in 43 Salón (inter)nacional de artistas (Medellin, Colombia 2013), and 8 Festival de performance (Cali, Colombia).
She is founder and editor of Periódica, a magazine that seeks to analyze the notion of self help through experimental writing. She has collaborated in digital publications such as The Guggenheim UBS Map Initiative, and Terremoto Magazine.
