Lucy Stein born in Oxford and currently lives and works in London.
Stein studied at Glasgow School of Art and de Ateliers, Amsterdam. Recent solo exhibitions include “O! where is St. George” at Galerie Gregor Staiger Zurich and group shows ‘Sacré 101 – An Exhibition Based on The Rite of Spring’ curated by Raphael Gygax, Migros Museum für Gegenwartskunst, Zurich, “Skirt the Parlour and Shun the Zoo” Walter Philips Gallery, The Banff Centre, Banff and “Next to Perplexed you” curated by Jan Verwoert, Galerie Martin Janda, Vienna.
Stein has been awarded the Queen’s Painting Prize GEM, The Hague, (2006) and was a recipient of the Jerwood Painting Prize in 2010. In 2011 she was nominated by Marlene Dumas for the 5x5Castelló Premi Internacional d'Art Contemporani Diputació de Castelló, and in 2006 was short listed for the Beck's Futures prize (as Blood 'n Feathers with Jo Robertson). In 2013 she and regular collaborator Shana Moulton received a grant from “The Elephant Trust” to make the video “Polventon.”
Stein has written for various publications including MAP magazine and Turps Banana, has co-organised exhibitions such as SS Blue Jacket at KARST, Plymouth and performs live with her band “Death Shanties”.
She has lived in Oxford, Glasgow, Amsterdam, Berlin, Ballyvaughn, Jesus Pobre and London.
